Seniors Learning for Fun Spring 2009 Course Schedule

February

  1. Furniture Refinishing and Restoration - Steve Elias, owner of Furniture Medic, will share tips for improving furniture condition and appearance. Wednesday, February 4, 1:30 p.m., First Christian Church, Lower Level, Audubon Drive.
  2. Bomb Squad - Sgt. William Gilbert, member of the Paducah Police Bomb Unit, will display and discuss the use of the equipment to safely dismantle bombs. Thursday, February 12, 2:30 p.m., WKCTC’s College Bistro in the Anderson Technical Building.
  3. CSI, A Paducah Success Story - Computer Services, Inc., President and CEO, Steve Powless, will share the development and expansion of the firm. Tuesday, February 17, 2:30 p.m., WKCTC’s College Bistro in the Anderson Technical Building.
  4. Protect Yourself From Identity Theft - Russ Claborn, Community Financial Services Bank’s Security Officer, will outline steps to ensure safety of personal information. Monday, February 23, 1:30 p.m., McCracken County Public Library.

  1. Songs from “Sinatra, My Way” - Join the Market House Theater cast as they reunite to perform Frank Sinatra tunes. Wednesday, March 4, 2:30 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church’s Parish Hall, 820 Broadway.
  2. Pilgrimage to Lourdes, France - Ann Denton, Lourdes Hospital Mission Board Member, will reminisce about the recent trip celebrating Lourdes Hospital’s 150th Anniversary. Monday, March 9, 1:30 p.m., McCracken County Public Library.
  3. Promoting Art, Rhythm & Rivers - Paducah Convention and Visitors Bureau Director
    Mary Hammond will talk about the city’s tourism activities. Monday, March 16, 1:30 p.m., McCracken County Public Library.
  4. Daydreaming for the Young at Heart - Inspirational Speaker Rosemary O’Keefe will
    challenge the imagination in an audience participation session. Tuesday, March 24, 2:30 p.m., WKCTC’s College Bistro in the Anderson Technical Building.

April

  1. “Three Cups of Tea” - WKCTC Professor Emeritus Andrew Halford will review author Greg Mortensen’s dangerous quest to build schools in Pakistan. Thursday, April 2, 2:30 p.m., WKCTC’s College Bistro in the Anderson Technical Building.
  2. Around the World in 30 Years - Basil and Genie Drossos will share experiences from living in other cultures during the years of Basil’s career. Wednesday, April 15, 1:30 p.m., McCracken County Public Library.

May

  1. The Good Guys in the Garden - Master Gardener Brenda Johnson will present a layman’s guide to identifying beneficial garden insects. Monday, May 4, 1:30 p.m., McCracken County Public Library.
  2. Trip to Henderson, Kentucky - Tour the John James Audubon Museum, dine at the Black Buggy Amish Restaurant Buffet, shop for unique, old fashioned food products in the general store and gift shop, and enjoy a guided bus tour of historic, downtown Henderson. Thursday, May 14, 7:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Depart from the east side of Whitehaven. To participate in the trip, one must be registered for the Spring Series of programs. A separate, non-refundable check for $40, made out to WKCTC Senior Trip, covers travel, museum admission and lunch. ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED.
