Microsoft Word from Beginning to End

ON-LINE COURSES

Online Basic Understanding of Health Unit Coordinator (BIT Credit) - You will learn the main job duties and responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC). Some of the areas to be emphasized will involve communication skills, confidentiality, legal ethical issues, and the transcription of doctor's orders. Course is online, but instructor facilitated. You must have access to the Internet. This course is open entry/open exit. If you want to enroll but are not employed by a local hospital, please e-mail Sally Roof, RN, Health Unit Coordinator Program Director, sally.roof@kctcs.edu for an application. The price of the course is based on the current college rates for a 3 hour course.

MEDICAL COURSE

Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA) - This course prepares the Medicaid Nurse Aide to administer specific medications in a long-term facility, as delegated and supervised by a licensed nurse. The course shall include basic principles, techniques, and procedures of medication administration in accordance with established guidelines and requirements that direct the limited functions of the Kentucky Medication Aide. The KMA qualifications are: 1) A minimum of 6 months experience as a nurse aide (not necessarily a nurse aide on the state registry) in a health care facility within the last 2 years; this should be verified by a letter from the employer which will be placed in student's folder; and, 2) IF the facility in which they will be working as a KMA receives any form of Medicaid funding, the person MUST be current on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry; the student bring his/her card to instructor so a copy of the card can be placed in the student's folder.

MOTORCYCLE TRAINING

Basic Motorcycle RiderCourse (20-hr) - If you are a beginning rider, the Basic RiderCourse will put you on the road to safety, right from the start. Your RiderCoaches will start you off with straight-line riding, turning, shifting, and stopping. You will gradually progress to cornering, swerving and emergency braking. You will learn about different types of motorcycles, what to wear for protection and comfort, and how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely. Kentucky Motorcycle Rider Education Program, Sills Cycle Center, and FDR Honda provide motorcycles. Harley-Davidson provides helmets.

Experienced Motorcycle RiderCourse (8-hr) - Even if you are a veteran rider, the Experienced RiderCourse will fine-tune your skills. You will practice slow maneuvering, emergency braking, evasive maneuvers and cornering skills on your own motorcycle. You will be reminded how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely and how to create your own strategy for riding in traffic and dealing with critical situations. Out-of-state students must have a valid motorcycle license. Kentucky residents must have a valid Kentucky permit and will have the option of taking additional training to waive the motorcycle license skill test.

Experienced Rider Course (ERC):
October 14, 2006

Basic OSHA Safety Awareness Training - A basic four-hour OSHA related safety course specifically designed, targeted, and required for contractors that work in plants that are members of the Four Rivers Safety Council. Training consists of a four-hour classroom lecture Mondays, starting at 7:30 am, and various computer-based site-specific testing. CDL Truck Driving Program - This is 160-hour training program (40-hour classroom training and 120-hour yard and road skills training) is designed for individuals with little or no commercial driving experience; the program includes everything you will need. You will receive a Department of Transportation physical, Commercial Driver's License learner's permit and endorsement preparation, Department of Transportation rules and regulations, log books, map reading, trip planning, and complete vehicle training including the Class A road exam. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded, as well as six college credits from West Kentucky Community & Technical College.

The full-time training program will be completed in three weeks by attending Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5:30 pm and one Saturday during the three-week period from 7 am to 5:30 pm. The part-time evening program can be completed in eight weeks, Monday through Friday, 6-10 pm. In addition, 30 hours of home study is required during the program.

SIGN-UP INFORMATION
The registration deadline is seven days prior to each class starting date. Register early so your class is not cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Call to check the status of your class and where your class will meet. Send in your name, Social Security number, name of the classes you are registering in, daytime phone number, mailing address and e-mail address and make your check or Money Order payable to West Kentucky Community & Technical College (WKCTC) and mail to Training Center, PO Box 7380, Paducah, KY 42002-7380.

Space in a class is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis when a paid registration is received. In order to reduce paper waste, no registration confirmations will be mailed.

REFUND POLICY
Cancellations must be made seven days in advance of the class starting date. Refunds generally take about four weeks to process. Failure to attend class does not constitute cancellation. INSURANCE
The Training Center does not provide accident insurance for anyone registered in any course through our Center. Those wanting such coverage should make arrangements with their insurance agent.

DIRECTIONS TO THE ANDERSON BUILDING
The Anderson Building is located on the campus of West Kentucky Community and Technical College at 5200 Alben Barkley Drive (Highway 62).

DIRECTIONS TO ALLIED HEALTH BUILDING
Enter the main entrance of the campus at 4810 Alben Barkley Drive and drive straight to back parking lot until you come to STOP sign. At STOP sign, turn right. The Allied Health Building is the first building on your right. A large marquee in the yard identifies the building. Enter the building from the right entrance doors. Signs will be posted on the inner lobby doors indicating where your classes are located. All classes will be in the east wing of the building.

PARKING REGULATIONS ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS
No parking permits are required, but these parking regulations MUST be adhered to. Parking tickets cannot be "fixed." The Training Center will not be held responsible for citations given to students.
