Health Physics
Program Description:
 This certificate program includes courses designed to prepare
students for entry-level employment into a variety of occupational and
environmental settings in a Department of Energy facility. Students
will study the basic principles of atomic and nuclear physics, radioactivity,
radiation detection, and environmental monitoring.
What do people in this job do?
- Perform duties including personnel monitoring, sample collection for
radiation evaluation, data recording and tabulation and related mathematical
calculations under direct supervision.
- Use radiation monitoring instruments to distinguish and understand characteristics
of radiation.
- Complete analysis of data limited to comparison of routine readings with
pre-determined standards and report those which exceed operational level.

- Nuclear Power Plants in other states – requires relocation
- Companies supplying temporary employees (travelers) to nuclear power
plants – requires extensive travel
How Much Can I Earn?
You can earn on average $18 per hour with the Health Physics
Certificate.

What Do I Need to Do to Apply?
Step 1: Prepare Your Application
- Complete Application Form.
- Contact WKCTC Adult Education Center to schedule and take the
TABE Test at 270/534-3451.
- Secure Copy of TABE Test scores.
- Secure 3 letters of reference.
- Provide a copy of GED, HS Diploma, or higher degree earned or Transcript
(those admitted will need to submit an official copy at a later date).
- Complete releases of information for WKCTC to contact references,
interested agencies and potential employers.
Step 2: Turn in Your Paperwork
- Turn all paperwork in to the Office of Employment & Training. Address: 416
S. 6th St. Paducah, KY
- Office of Employment & Training will conduct preliminary screening
to ensure all applicants meet basic qualifications.
Time is limited. So turn in your application as soon as possible.
Step 3: Participate in Screening Interview
- Participate in Screening Interview
Step 4: Secure Background &Drug Test
- If selected for final consideration, you will need to complete
appropriate paperwork for criminal background check and pay $45.
- Complete Drug Screening and pay $45.
- Total cost is $90.
Step 5: Complete Additional Assessments
- If selected, contact WKCTC to schedule required additional assessments.

- If selected, participate in final interview
